The East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh is seeing a new trend: more and more devotees opting for `eco-friendly' Ganesh idols. Ahead of the Vinayaka/Ganesh Chaturthi on September 1, the idols made from bio-degradable materials such as paper mash and natural gum are selling well. Lakshmana rao, a manufacturer, said that even the organisers of public festivals are favouring these eco-Ganesh' idols for installing in pandals. Ramkrishna, another idol manufacturer said, "Once there was no demand for eco-friendly Ganesh... now demand is increasing," and added that these idols were much cheaper than POP idols. In fact, now there is a shortage of eco-friendly idols in the market, said an idol-seller....By LAKSHMAN RAO

Birds like moorhens, ducks and skylarks enjoy leftover bananas and squabble over the empty skins. The tropical energy boost help birds warm up soon after eating them. They will certainly be of more nutritional value than bread, which is more commonly fed to geese, ducks and swans. After trying tasting and experimenting with different fruits it's the bananas that have revealed some of the birds' hidden cravings. ...By Paul
late winter is the best time for hedgerow management
9 December,2010
If possible, hedgerow work is best done in January or February, allowing birds to make use of the berry crop through the winter and avoiding disturbance to nesting thrushes which normally start nesting in March. Hedgerow trimming is best done on rotation, rather than annually. If done on a 2-3 year rotation so that only a fraction of the hedges are managed in any one winter then this will boost survival of beneficial insect populations and food resources for birds. This policy should also save money....By Sean
Using dense trees filled in with thick shrubbery around the tree trunks can create a sound-absorbing buffer zone of green.Another step you can take to reduce noise pollution is to create 'white noise' by covering the unwanted sound with the sound of running water from a water feature or soft music from outdoor speakers. Or just hang some wind chimes to distract you from other noise pollution.

Noted local environmental activist Mahavir Singh Mehta has said that bursting fire works
to celebrate the festival of Diwali has not been an Indian tradition. Such crackers cause

I live in a university town, and everyone knows how poor students can be. The other day I went to the laundromat to do my laundry, and it occurred to me that instead of having a cup of coffee while the machine was running, I could buy three more tubs of washing powder and share them with those who might need them. I bought the tubs, and placed them near the entrance with a Smile Card on each one of them. I hope this little gesture made some people smile! ...By ICCM
Every day Millions of people will be on net chatting with friends relatives.... etc to communicate on personal ,business ,social networking ...etc.We come across so much of information about social service.we only consider it when we actually fall needy and we know its value when some unknown person comes at our rescue.we think it is God who helped us and again ignore that it is human who actually helped.
Just the way we are working on conesrvation of water, energy resources etc..it is also the need of the hour to protect people with good hearts and working selflessly for ourselves.
So why not we extend a little support by adding some information about the need and helping hands as part our chatting as a small attachment ,don't know when our good deed will pay back to us in crisis ....By Abraham

one day i went to a fruit juice shop. As I was taking my last sip of tropical mango juice a little boy came running in to get some juice and seemed to be in a hurry. The little one did not realize that tinned juice cost a bit more than fresh juice. When he realized that he did not have enough money to buy it, he started to walk back to his Dad to get more money. It looked like they were in a hurry and did not want to miss their bus. I called the boy and gave him the canned juice and paid for it. The boy accepted it, smiled, thanked me and ran to his Dad. They both waved at me as they got onto the bus. It was a small incident that made me realize that it isn't difficult to make yourself happy. You just have to do small acts of kindness and brighten another person's day." ...By smitha
I have realized the true power of a Smile. after I joined this website, it has added a new meaning, and now when I smile, there is a purpose - to spread happiness - to keep on smiling until I receive a smile back. It so happens that I work in an analyst department where the members are always ploughing away at their work quite seriously, Prior, to my joining the team there was always a loud silence, broken only by hushed whispers, mouse clicks or keyboard sounds. But today, I must confess after more than six months of "smiling with a purpose" I can see a group of smiles and some friendly looks starting to come back to me. Recently on a few occasions the room has even been filled with warmth and laughter." -- ...By smilinglady7

I live in Playa Vista, a community in the Westside of Los Angeles. Although we have recycling here, it is more
limited than the blue bins that the City of LA now uses which accepts plastics #1-7 and styrofoam. I just realized
how many wooden chopsticks and plastic spoons and forks I accumulated...I realize that these will decompose if I
throw them in the waste bin. How about plastic spoons and forks or other plastics that don't have a recycling #1-7
on them? Styrofoam? Any info would be most appreciated! Thanks....By Karishma
I've been going through many ups and downs.am truly blessed however, to have loving people in my life to hold my hand through this life altering process. I met Elizabeth. She lives underneath an archway near a Rite Aide.I wanted to help this poor lady. She told me that she had family, and I wondered how on earth they could allow their own flesh and blood to live on a cold sidewalk. The next day, I gave her some clothes, an umbrella, some food, all I could. Since my meeting her, it's become my mission to do what I can to make her day brighter. My point being, as hard as we think our lives are, there can be someone else's life, that is that much more tragic. Please, be selfless and care about the people we don't know -- we are all on this earth together!" --butterfliesfroma ...By butterfliesfroma
A lady who loved her husband very much was hurt when he married another woman and shared her pain with her brother.the brother loved his sister so much and wanted to give her solace so in an attempt to bring the errant husband back they hatch a conspiracy to eliminate the object of his love so they brutally burn this child
their love was not happy with the love that this child usurped with her birth.None of them is to be painted black or white all of us are shades of grey. We must start serving ourselves before we think of serving society. There is a resurrection with scars. "Yep, it's that time of year again! Last night it snowed. This morning my driveway was covered in a bright white blanket. My husband and I have an elderly neighbor. He seems to be away this year, I don't know if he's in a nursing home or perhaps he's staying at a relative's home. For the past three or four years since I've been living here, I have always made it a point to shovel or sweep his driveway whenever I do mine. I encourage my husband to do the same. We believe that because our neighbor is elderly, we should shovel his snow away! It just takes an extra few minutes. Tomorrow the snowfall is supposed to be heavier, and of course I will shovel my neighbor's driveway. This year, let's all do this... it's the kind thing to do." --lmil1954 ...By lmil

My husband works road construction in the summers, so his clothes go through a rotation. Good clothes, work in the garage clothes and then on to their final resting place - tar clothes. One day I began cutting them into little squares to make a quilt for him. I bought some remnants at a local fabric store to add color to the quilt. I used an old sheet for thickness, and bought a couple of yards of new flannel for the back. For under $15 I have a wonderfull quilt that my husband loves, and I saved yards of good material from ending up in the dumpster.

By giving the young people in your life charitable gifts and explaining to them how that gift will greatly benefit
others, you will instill in them the notion of charity, something they will hopefully carry with them throughout

How can you fail to realize that it matters not whether the poor vegetable has been genetically altered or hormonally envigorated - what matters is whether the poor thing has been sliced up by a cruel harvesting device of some sort or ripped from it’s life-sustaining roots by some other evil machine.
If you must consume a plant or plant part, please do not support harvesting! Recently I called across to a pregnant lady quite a few metres away to offer my seat to her. The many people who were seated between us studiously kept their heads in their newspapers so they were not called upon to offer their seats instead. The same thing happened the next day when I gave my seat to an elderly person. They were both very grateful and as they thanked me I said, "My pleasure". Then it struck me that it was 'my pleasure'! I had no need to be grumpy with all the other people who did not offer their seats as this made me the receiver of this small bit of pleasure in my journey instead of them!"
